Casting processes for 304 stainless steel castings

The mostly used casting process for 304 stainless steel castings is silica sol casting, a kind of lox wax casting. Weights of 304 stainless steel castings made by silica sol casting process are controlled between 0.1kg to 50kgs. Dimensions of 304 stainless steel castings are more accuracy and requires for little machining. Cast tolerance can reach ISO8062 CT5-CT6. Surface roughness of SS304 stainless steel made by silica sol casting process is between Ra 3.2 to Ra6.3.

Some of 304 stainless steel castings also made in sand casting process. Such as the 304 stainless steel castings with weight more than 50kgs. Sand casting can control the quality better. Only the dimension is not as accurate as investment castings. 

Surface Treatment of 304 stainless steel castings

Acid cleaning and passivation treating is required for 304 stainless steel castings. Passivation can made an anticorrosive layer on surface of the 304 stainless steel castings. It can make the life time of 304 stainless steel longer. 

Inspection of 304 Stainless steel castings

Normal inspection on 304 stainlesss teel castings are Material Testing and Dimension Testing. Some special 304 stainless steel castings, such as pumps and valves, require for press testing, etc.
